Helwan University Home Economics Students Make Their Mark on the Campus Work Environment by Producing Staff Uniforms
With creative student hands and a conscious university spirit, the Department of Clothing and Textiles at the Faculty of Home Economics, Helwan University, has launched a distinguished project to design and produce uniforms for the university’s staff. This step reflects the university’s commitment to involving its students in real projects that serve the campus community, enhance the professional environment, and ensure a presentable appearance for its workforce.
The project was implemented under the patronage of Prof. Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of Helwan University, who reaffirmed his full support for initiatives that provide students with hands-on experience and open new horizons for creativity. He emphasized that the university consistently seeks to connect academic study with practical application, in ways that positively impact the entire university community.
The initiative also received strong support and follow-up from Prof. Dr. Enas Maher Bedeir, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Dr. Khaled Abed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.
Supervisors of the project, Prof. Dr. Medhat Abou-Hasheima, Head of the Department of Clothing and Textiles and Director of the Production Unit, and Dr. Hoda Mohamed Shaaban, Director of the Faculty’s Production Unit Branch at Helwan University, praised the students’ dedication and high-quality work. They affirmed that the project stands as a successful model for activating the faculty’s role in serving the university community, preparing students for labor market requirements, equipping them with practical expertise, and strengthening their confidence in their capabilities.
Students participated in all phases of production through hands-on workshops. The project was completed as part of the Graduation Project course for fourth-year students in the Department of Clothing and Textiles, under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr. Osama Mohamed Hussein Abou-Hasheima, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Zeinab Abdel Hafiz, former Head of the Department.
The project covered all stages of uniform production—from design, cutting, and sewing, to finishing and final delivery—providing students with comprehensive practical experience in a real production environment.
