The Faculty of Home Economics was established in 1937. In 1942, it was affiliated with the Higher Technical Institutes and became a higher institute in 1947. In 1962, the name was changed to the Higher Institute of Home Economics. In 1975, it was affiliated with Helwan University under the name of the Faculty of Home Economics.

The Faculty of Home Economics is considered one of the applied faculties with distinguished specializations, unique among Egyptian universities. The faculty currently offers five bachelor's degree programs:

- Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences
- Department of Clothing and Textiles
- Department of Family and Childhood Institutions Management
- Department of Educational Home Economics
- Department of Leather Industries

In addition, it includes distinguished special programs with fees:

1- Therapeutic Nutrition Program

2- Teaching Program for People with Special Needs

3- Clothing Manufacturing Technology Program
